Lake County boil-water alert should end at midnight

The Lake County Department of Utilities expected a boil alert to be lifted at midnight Thursday after water samples were analyzed for an area including parts of Wickliffe, Willoughby, Willoughby Hills and Willowick. The boil alert was issued late Wednesday because of a pump malfunction at the water tower at routes 91 and 84, or SOM Center Road and Ridge Road. The department said it had detected no positive samples or contamination, and that the alert was only precautionary.

Residents in affected areas were advised they should not drink the water without flushing and boiling first, and should flush all taps used for drinking and cooking for at least 4 minutes; bring all water to a boil, let it boil for at least one minute at a rolling boil, and let it cool before using; or use bottled water.

The department said residents will be notified through reverse-911, social media and their website once the boil alert is lifted.
