No. 19 Rutgers 71, St. Joseph’s 69

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) _ Caroline DeRoose scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures and No. 19 Rutgers held off St. Joseph’s 71-69 Sunday in the Atlantic 10.

St. Joseph’s, led by center Robyne Bostick, took an early 26-14 lead with 9:13 left in the first half. The Lady Knights (14-3, 8-0) responded with an 18-6 run to tie the score at 32 with 2:45 remaining in the half, but the Hawks (12-6, 4-4) went into the break with a 36-35 lead.

The two teams went back and forth until Rutgers forward Regina Kalucki hit a jump shot at the 4:43 mark to give the Lady Knights the lead for good.

Rutgers pushed the lead to six points before St. Joseph’s came to within two with 40 seconds remaining, but the Hawks couldn’t get off a final shot.

Janell Williams scored 12 and Gabriela Gonzalez added 11 for the Lady Knights. Liz Hanson and Amy Reynders each had 10 for Rutgers.

Bostick led St. Joseph’s with 15 points. Audrey Codner and Kerry Nemeth each had 14 and Tonya Wenger 11 for the Hawks.
