GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) _ The Green Bay Packers hired Joe Philbin as assistant offensive line coach Monday.

Philbin was Iowa’s offensive line coach the past two seasons, helping the Hawkeyes produce 214.2 yards rushing a game, second in the Big Ten.

``Joe has done an outstanding job during his tenure at Iowa of establishing the Hawkeyes’ offensive line as one of the best in college football,″ Packers coach Mike Sherman said.

Philbin, 41, also was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Harvard and at Northeastern.

Philbin replaces Pat Ruel, who resigned to become the offensive line coach for the Buffalo Bills.
