LOWELL -- The high school boys basketball team that plays inside won’t be defending their home court Friday because of rain and heavy wind in the forecast.

In an “abundance of caution,” Lowell High School officials have decided to relocate Friday’s game to Tewksbury Memorial High School at 5:30 p.m.

The roof at Lowell High School has been fixed, but it hasn’t been tested yet in a heavy rainstorm with wind, Mayor Bill Samaras said Thursday.

“So in anticipation of that, they just moved the game to the next town over in an abundance of caution,” he said.

“They just didn’t want to take any chances,” Samaras added.

The roof has leaked in the past, but it’s not leaking now after recent repairs.

The $350 million Lowell High School renovation/addition project is still years away.

This is a developing story.
