Ohio Metal Auto Parts Plant Closes

March 7, 2002

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) _ A plant in this northwest Ohio community that makes metal auto parts will close later this year.

Officials of Metaldyne Precision Forming told workers Monday that the plant will be closed, eliminating 91 jobs.

``There were rumors that the plant was going to close, but this is still a shock,″ said Jolene Kuzma, office manager at the plant.

The company will transfer its Port Clinton operations to other plants across the nation, Kuzma said. Employees have not been told if they will be offered jobs at the other plants.

The company, based in Plymouth, Mich., has started negotiations with United Auto Workers Local 497, Kuzma said.

Metaldyne supplies metal formed components, assemblies and modules for the auto industry. It has about 12,500 employees at 79 plants worldwide.
