WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Wichita State reliever Travis Wyckoff (5-0) allowed one hit over the final 4 2-3 innings as the Shockers beat Rice 16-6 Sunday night to win the Midwest Regional Tournament.

The Shockers advanced to the College World Series, while Rice lost in a regional final for the second straight year.

Nathan Reese homered in the second inning to give the Shockers a 3-0 lead. Wichita State (54-9) added a solo homer in the third by Randy Young and a three-run blast by Jerry Stine to go up 7-0 after three.

Rice (42-23) scored four runs on six hits against Shocker starter Jason Krafft and added two more against Marc Bluma to cut it to 9-6 after five innings.

Dana Davis (4-2) took the loss for Rice, giving up nine runs, eight of them earned, in three-plus innings.

Stine and Reese had three RBIs each for the Shockers, and Jeff Ryan also homered.

Lance Berkman had four hits and two RBIs for the Owls, and Jason Richard also drove in two runs.
