TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) _ Yelena Dementieva of Russia beat Hila Rosen of Israel 7-5, 6-4 Tuesday on the second day of the WTA President’s Cup Women’s Open.
Iroda Tulyaganova, a 17-year-old from Uzbekistan, won a storm of applause on her home court after beating Seda Noorlander of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-3.
Russian Tatyana Panova, seeded second, overcame a second-set collapse to beat Anna Zaporozhanova of Ukraine 6-4, 0-6, 6-1.
A match between Mellen Tu of the United States and Tatiana Garbin of Italy was rescheduled for Wednesday when lights on the court failed.
About 2,200 watched the second day of the $112,500 tournament in the Uzbek capital.
