OIL BOOM-NEW MEXICO

HOBBS, N.M. _ Federal numbers say two New Mexico counties remain among the top oil-producing counties in the U.S. The Hobbs News-Sun reports data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration show that Lea County was the No. 2 oil-producing county in January behind North Dakota’s McKenzie County. Lea County produced 14.6 million barrels of oil in January while McKenzie County which produced 17.3 million barrels. SENT: 355 words.

MINOT MAIL

MINOT, N.D. _ U.S. Postal Service officials say the Minot post office doesn’t have the money or space to bring back full mail processing. The agency’s district manager Douglas Stephens tells the Minot Daily News that the city’s post office can’t expand to handle full mail processing because demand is already in decline. Regular mail is sent daily from Minot to Bismarck for processing. It’s then trucked back to the city. Stephens says the office is working to streamline its operations. SENT: 285 words.

EXCHANGE-STUDENT’S MENTAL HEALTH

BISMARCK, N.D. _ Rachel Roehrich created a website to help students navigate life in high school and connect them to mental health and addiction resources. The website was an idea generated by Roehrich, a sophomore at Century High School, and a small group of classmates in a leadership class as a one-stop, user-friendly site for students. The site, called CHS Corner, recently launched. It includes tips for students on topics such as effectively managing stress, an information section with articles for students and a school and community resources page.
