Homecoming week plans announced
NEEDLES — Homecoming week for the Needles Unified School District is to be Oct. 8 through 13.
On Monday, Oct. 8, a powderpuff volleyball game begins at 6:30 p.m. in The Corral followed by a powderpuff football game on Branigan Field.
On Wednesday, Oct. 10, senior appreciation takes place around 6:30 a.m.
On Thursday, Oct. 11, the Mustang Drive is scheduled at 5:30 p.m.. Participants are to meet in the empty dirt lot across from Desert Communities Federal Credit Union along Broadway. A community pep rally in The Corral follows at 6 p.m. The day ends with the traditional bonfire scheduled at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, Oct. 12, a school pep rally is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in The Corral. The coronation of homecoming royalty is scheduled from 1 to 1:30 p.m. in the Needles High School auditorium. The homecoming parade, immediately after coronation, is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. A homecoming volleyball game has been added to the year’s sports schedule with the junior varsity opening against the Lake Mead Lady Eagles at 4 p .m., the varsity following at 5 p.m. The homecoming game football game against the Eagles kicks off at 7 p.m. on Branigan Field. Homecoming royalty will be announced at halftime.
On Saturday, Oct. 13, the homecoming dance is scheduled from 8 p.m. to midnight at the El Garces.
Tracy Hanline, Associated Student Body sponsor, said some of these times might change according to coaches and/or city requirements for road closure/parade route restrictions. The school district is encouraging any community groups, alumni groups, organizations or businesses to enter a float in the parade this year, saying, “The more the better.” The theme of the parade is Blue and White Blitz! Parade entry forms can be obtained in the high school office.
