Man Arrested For Drug Possession Outside Ashley Nightclub
ASHLEY — Police arrested a man who was sleeping in an SUV in the parking lot of Bentley’s and who allegedly had heroin with him and reached for a knife during the arrest.
According to a criminal complaint: Ashley police officer Mark Icker saw the Chevrolet Equinox early Monday in the back of the venue’s parking lot at 2300 Route 309.
He saw a man sleeping in the SUV and small wax bags, the burnt bottom of a soda can and an unlabeled pill bottle in the vehicle.
The sleeping man was Adam L. Black, 37.
He said he was homeless and visiting friends.
Black asked if he could get a shirt from the vehicle. While reaching for the shirt, he allegedly tried to retrieve a knife. Seeing this, the officer held Black at gunpoint and called another officer for assistance. A search of the vehicle revealed eight small bags of heroin.
Two addresses were given on Black’s arrest papers, one in Bolivia, N.C., and another in Wilkes-Barre.
He was lodged in Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for noon Aug. 1 in Luzerne County Central Court, 77 Water St., Wilkes-Barre.
