Illinois-Chicago 86, Alabama State 63

CHICAGO (AP) _ Anthony Coomes’ 18 points, including a career-high five 3-pointers, led Illinois-Chicago to an 86-63 win over Alabama State on Tuesday night.

The Flames (2-0) built a 45-17 halftime lead. The Hornets (0-2) went scoreless for eight minutes while Illinois-Chicago went on a 16-0 romp for a 36-15 lead.

UIC’s Mark Miller scored 10 of his 16 points in the first half.

Alabama State, which managed only 13 points in the first half in a loss to DePaul on Monday night, fell behind by as many as 28 in the final 20 minutes, at 60-32.

The Flames made 10-of-23 from beyond the 3-point line, won the rebounding battle 49-28 and forced 20 turnovers.

Theandre Kimbrough added 11 points for Illinois-Chicago, while Bryant Lowe had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Corey Williams and Richard Mason each had 12 points to pace the Hornets.
