Indiana prison guard expected to fully recover after attack
BUNKER HILL, Ind. (AP) — A correctional officer at a northern Indiana prison is expected to make a full recovery after being violently attacked by an inmate.
Miami Correctional Facility officials say 24-year-old Jonathen Lovelace attacked Officer William Ross on Dec. 9 with an improvised weapon where a padlock was inserted into a sock.
The Kokomo Tribune reports Lovelace allegedly struck Ross repeatedly in the face and head, and kicked him in the head.
Ross was hospitalized, but is expected to make a full recovery and return to work at the prison in Bunker Hill, about 60 miles southwest of Fort Wayne.
Interim Warden William Wilson says the attack remains under review, but officials intend to aggressively seek criminal prosecution “for this senseless act.”
Lovelace is serving a 16-year sentence on a child molesting conviction.
