New year and changes

February 2, 2019

The holidays have come and gone. Many are getting back into their daily routines or working hard at keeping their New Year resolutions!

The Building Department is definitely back into its routine and have experienced a lot of new changes within the last couple of months. From new staff, updating our code books and guides to raising awareness of building information to the public, we are excited that this New Year will bring both good changes and a lot of learning experiences for our staff and our community.

We would like to thank those who have taken the time to call in for your inspections in a timely manner and for applying for proper permitting.

Additionally, we would like to remind everyone to make sure that you get your home renovation projects cleaned up in a timely manner. It is against City Code to accumulate rubbish or garbage as stated in the IPMC 2012 Section 308.1: All exterior property and premises, and the interior of every structure, shall be free from any accumulation of rubbish or garbage. It is allowed to get a dumpster for your larger renovation projects, however it is important to discard its contents in a timely manner to diminish critter nuisances or infestations. When placing a dumpster on a city street it is required to have prior authorization from the city.

All City Building Codes and Ordinances are available online at www.columbusne.us.

We appreciate you helping us keep Columbus beautiful.

Jamie Adame is a code enforcement official for the City of Columbus.
