Victims of fatal Wayne County fire ID’d
DUNLOW, W.Va. — A structure fire in Wayne County proved deadly as it claimed the lives of a mother and daughter Monday evening in Dunlow.
Dorothy Perry, 82, and her daughter, Judith Perry, 59, both of Dunlow, were identified by West Virginia State Police on Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators say the fire appeared to be accidental and there was no evidence of foul play.
According to sources, the fire happened in a double-wide mobile home near Bridge Road. A neighbor reported the fire just after 3:30 p.m. Monday, advising dispatchers that the two may have been inside the home. Troopers arrived on scene shortly after 5 p.m. The two women were pronounced dead at the scene, but their names were not released until Tbesday afternoon.
Multiple agencies from Wayne County responded to the structure fire, and the responding agencies received mutual aid from the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department in Mingo County.
The fire was reported as contained just after 11 p.m. Monday after a brief rekindling of the flames.
Officials say State Police and the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office are still investigating.
