VOLLEYBALL: Holy Redeemer Falls Short In State Title Game
MECHANICSBURG — The best season in Holy Redeemer history ended in silver on Saturday. The Royals played in their first state championship game on Saturday at Cumberland Valley, but their first gold trophy eluded them as they fell to Bald Eagle Area, the undefeated District 6 champions, in three sets in the PIAA Class 2A title game. Holy Redeemer held a slim lead most of the first set before the Eagles surged late. Bald Eagle closed the set on a 10-3 run to take the set 25-19. It was a theme that would repeat itself over the course of the afternoon. The teams traded the lead throughout the second set with Holy Redeemer holding a 23-21 edge. However, Bald Eagle ran off four straight points include the final three coming off aces to take the set and put Holy Redeemer’s season on the brink. The third set was another nailbiter, tied at 15 different spots, the final time at 22. Once again, Bald Eagle closed strong taking three of the final four points to earn the win and the state championship. Holy Redeemer closes its season 24-2. Bald Eagle finishes 22-0.
