Illegally parked car leads to seizure of gun, pot in Stamford
STAMFORD — A “suspicious” car parked on the West Side led to the seizure of a loaded gun and a half ounce of marijuana late Monday, police said.
Sgt. Kenneth Jarrett said officers were cruising Myano Lane just before midnight when they saw an illegally parked Honda near 111 Myano Lane.
The cops stepped out of their cruiser and approached the vehicle when they began to smell marijuana. They talked to the driver and passenger and directed them to exit the vehicle.
The passenger, Kalik Artis-Hall, 20, of 101 Myano Lane, kept reaching into his pocket, Jarrett said. When police checked the pocket they found a semiautomatic handgun, Jarrett said.
When police looked through the car they also found a half ounce of pot, Jarrett said.
Jarrett said that Artis-Hall claimed ownership of the marijuana and the gun.
He was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana and sale of marijuana.
