German Subsidiary of Ford Recalling Thousands of Mondeo Models
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) _ The German subsidiary of the U.S-based Ford Motor Co., is recalling 9,500 Mondeo sedans to install a ground cable on the fuel tank filler neck, the company said Thursday.
Spokesman Thomas Wuesten said the recall affects 1995 four-door Mondeo models in what he called a preemptive service measure.
Letters have been sent to owners of the cars since the end of March, advising them of the recall, Wuesten said.
He cited a similar measure taken by General Motors Corp.’s German unit Opel in February, because of sparks from static electricity in some instances causing a flare during refueling. No injuries were reported in those cases.
Wuesten said there had been no such cases with the Mondeo, but that the company wanted to ensure any ``remaining risk″ is eliminated.
