Alabama man charged in sexual assault investigation in Aiken County

An Alabama man was charged Monday in connection to a sexual assault investigation dating back to 2017.

John Allen McAbee II, of Hartselle, Alabama, is charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to jail records.

Aiken County Sheriff’s Office investigators met with the victim on May 11 and she disclosed she had been sexually abused by the suspect in Aiken County between October 2017 and March 2018, according to the report.

She told investigators the suspect moved to Alabama in March, the report states.

Police believe on Oct. 16, 2017, the suspect “did engage in a sexual battery with the victim.”

There were also several sexual assault incidents which police believe occurred between Oct. 16, 2017 and Mar. 1, 2018.

McAbee was arrested Monday and taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he was released on a $15,000 bond the same day, according to the detention center.
