Dow Jones Up 40 in Early Trading
NEW YOR (AP) _ Stock prices are mixed in early trading as blue chips rally. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 40 points in today’s early going. Losing issues on the New York Stock Exchange hold a narrow lead over gainers.
The Nasdaq Composite Index is off a fraction points and the Standard-and-Poor’s 500 Stock Index is up less than one point.
Wall Street is in part following through on yesterday’s rally, sending blue chips higher despite the lack of any major economic data.
Earnings reports may hold the key to the market action.
Shares of footwear and apparel maker Nike could benefit from improved profits in its fiscal second quarter.
Nike’s earnings jumped nearly 18 percent with profits of $179 million or 66 cents per share, better than the 61 cents expected by analysts.
