Police: Teen hospitalized after being hit by Amtrak train
CHICOPEE, Mass. (AP) — Police say a 14-year-old boy was taken to a hospital after being hit by a train carrying 102 passengers in western Massachusetts.
The boy was walking on train tracks in Chicopee when police say Amtrak Train 56 struck and injured him Wednesday afternoon.
Chicopee police say he was conscious after being hit and was taken to Baystate Medical Center with injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
The boy, who Amtrak officials say was trespassing, appeared to have been knocked out of his sneakers in the accident.
Train tracks are considered private property and it is illegal to walk on them.
There are no reported injuries to the trains passengers or crew members.
Investigators say the train usually travels between 35 and 40 mph in the area.
