Authorities investigate fire that killed 95-year-old woman
NEW YORK (AP) — Officials say a 95-year-old woman has died in a fire in her Brooklyn home.
A Fire Department spokesman says firefighters responded to the house fire in the Canarsie neighborhood at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Once the flames were out, firefighters found 95-year-old Anna Barthelemy in the basement. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s daughter, Esther Benoit, tells TV station tells WCBS that she tried to get her mother out of the house but the smoke was too heavy.
A firefighter and one other person suffered minor injuries in the fire.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
