PARIS (AP) _ Most national French newspapers failed to appear on the newsstands Monday following a strike by printers seeking talks on measures that would liberalize their industry.

Sunday's strike was called by the CGT labor union to protest proposed changes in France's press law that would restructure the printing and newspaper distribution sectors.

The 24-hour strike also was called to draw attention to salary demands by printers and newspaper distributors. The strikers say management has not proposed serious talks on their demands.
