TOKYO (AP) _ Mel Hall hit a three-run home run as the Chiba Lotte Marines edged the Seibu Lions 4-3 on Tuesday.

Hall, a former major leaguer, has 13 homers this season.

Jimmy Jones raised his record to 4-1, allowing three hits before leaving in the seventh inning, as the Yomiuri Giants beat the Hiroshima Toyo Carp 5-2 in the Tokyo Dome.

SEATTLE (AP) - The Seattle SuperSonics are going to Mexico.

The Sonics on Tuesday announced an eight-game exhibition schedule for October that will begin in Spokane and end in Mexico City.

On Oct. 28-29, the Sonics will join San Antonio, the Los Angeles Clippers and NBA champion Houston for a two-day, four-team tournament at the Sports Palace in Mexico City.

VIRGINA WATER, England (AP) - Vijay Singh’s victory in last weekend’s Scandinavian Masters rocketed the golfer from Fiji 78 places on the European money winners’ list to 17th with a total of $215,3250.

There was little movement in the top 10 with Jose Maria Olazabal, Colin Montgomerie, Bernhard Langer and Miguel Angel Jimenez retaining their top four places.

ARUNDEL, England (AP) - English Derby winner Erhaab’s immediate future was uncertain Tuesday after X-rays failed to show any injury.

Erhaab was examined by vets at trainer John Dunlop’s stables following two failures after the Derby win on June 1.

″Erhaab was X-rayed but the X-rays revealed no significant findings.″ stable spokesman Marcus Hosgood said.

″We don’t know what will happen next.″

Dunlop may go ahead with plans to prepare Erhaab for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on October 2.
