January 26, 1996

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) _ Keldrick Porter had 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench to lead Nicholls State to a 71-54 win over host Stephen F. Austin on Thursday.

SFA (9-6, 4-3) had entered the game leading the conference in scoring, averaging 83.3 points per game.

But a stingy defense by Nicholls State (4-11, 4-3 Southland Conference) limited the Lumberjacks to a season-low 54 points.

The Lumberjacks held the lead until 16:30 in the first half. A 14-2 run by Nicholls State stole the initiative and claimed a lead they would not relinquish.

Dennis Wilson had 11 points for the Colonels, and Kenderick Franklin and Chris Thompson added 10 points each.

Jermaine Lyons was the only Lumberjacks player to score in double digits with 11 points. Vasco Tonch had a game-high 11 rebounds.
