ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) _ Former St. Louis Rams linebacker London Fletcher agreed to sign with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday.
The deal is pending a physical examination on Thursday, Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold said.
``We’re very excited to have London Fletcher coming here,″ Bills president Tom Donahoe told ESPN.com, which reported the deal will cover five years. ``He’s going to bring us a lot of excitement and leadership. ... We got a heck of a football player.″
Donahoe and Fletcher’s agent, Tony Paige, did not return messages left by The Associated Press.
The deal comes after Fletcher, who spent the last four seasons with the Rams, completed a two-day series of meetings with Bills’ management and coaches. And it comes the same day that Sam Cowart, Buffalo’s two-time leading tackler, signed with the New York Jets.
A three-down linebacker, and three-year starter, Fletcher led the NFC champion Rams with 90 tackles last season, and was referred to as ``an integral part of the team,″ by St. Louis coach Mike Martz.
Earlier in the day, Fletcher called his chances of signing with the Bills, ``a great prospect.″
``The organization is great,″ Fletcher said.″ They’ve been great to me. I can see myself doing a lot of things in the organization and the community. It’s a great prospect.″
Fletcher had a base salary of $1.115 million last season.
