Jefferson draws with East Troy/Palmyra-Eagle, falls in shootout in conference tournament
EAST TROY — Aaron Heine scored two goals on assists from Caleb Stelse and Edward Serrano as Jefferson’s boys soccer team tied East Troy/Palmyra-Eagle 2-2 and lost on penalty kicks in the opening round of the Rock Valley Conference tournament on Monday.
“Our conference tournament against East Troy tonight started very slow,” Jefferson boys soccer coach Sam El-Beri said. “We gave up a goal in the first minute of the game on a set piece again from a corner kick. East Troy scored with a header one-on-one with our goalie. We gave up another one in the 30th minute on a set piece after we worked hard and we scored two goals in the first half.
“We finished with 14 shots on goal through the night but that wasn’t enough to put them away. Because it’s a tournament, we had to go to penalty kicks in the dark (because East Troy doesn’t) have lights. That was the hardest thing to do. So we lost the penalty kicks shootout 9-8.”
Jefferson (10-3-3, 4-1-2 RVC) hosts Evansville on Thursday at 7 p.m.
