WVU football adds defensive coach

January 15, 2019

CHARLESTON - One more name has been made official for new West Virginia University football coach Neal Brown’s staff, and it looks like a couple more spots will be filled very soon.

The university announced Wednesday that former Troy defensive line coach Jordan Lesley will move with Brown to his WVU staff. His position assignment will be announced later.

Three defensive linemen under the tutelage of Lesley, a former two-year starter at tight end for the Trojan, were named to All-Sun Belt teams in 2018, including first-team honoree Trevon Sanders. Antione Barker and Jarvis Hayes were third-team members.

In 2018, the Trojans were ranked 10th nationally in sacks, 16th in tackles for loss, 24th in rushing defense, 28th in scoring defense and 31st in total defense. From 2016-18, Troy’s defense allowed 20.8 points per game, fourth-best nationally among Group of Five schools.

Lesley joins defensive coordinator Vic Koenning, offensive line coach Matt Moore and offensive assistant Chad Scott as new announced members of Brown’s staff. It looks, though, like a couple more will be coming on board.

Troy cornerbacks coach/recruiting coordinator Al Pogue and co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Sean Reagan both have changed their Twitter accounts to a WVU background, with Pogue putting “WVU Asst. Coach” in his bio. That would match with reports from Football Scoop that the two would join the staff.

Troy corner Marcus Jones was named a second-team All-Sun Belt pick, while corner Blace Brown was a third-teamer.

As of now, tight ends/fullbacks coach Dan Gerberry, linebackers/special teams coach Mark Scott and Mike Joseph, assistant athletic director for strength and conditioning, remain on the WVU athletic website as part of the staff.
