No serious injuries in FWCS bus crash
A Fort Wayne Community Schools bus hadn’t reached its first stop after school today when a passenger car crossed the center line, striking the bus near a rear wheel well, officials said.
No serious injuries were reported in the crash, according to the Allen County sheriff’s department. It happened about 2:30 p.m. on Hillegas Road just south of Bass Road.
Three students who were sitting at the back of the bus complained of shoulder pain, FWCS spokeswoman Krista Stockman said. She described the bus driver as shaken but OK.
Stockman did not know the number of students on board.
The bus had just left Portage Middle School and was traveling north on Hillegas, she said.
“They had not gotten very far before the accident occurred,” Stockman said.
Portage is within two miles south of the crash site.
The bus tried to avoid the collision with the southbound car but was unsuccessful, Stockman said.
Another bus arrived for the students, and the damaged bus was driven away, she said.
