Komets continue winning ways
Goaltender Zach Fucale stopped 34 of 35 shots, leading the Komets to a 4-1 victory over the Brampton Beast in front of an announced crowd of 2,532 at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario, on Saturday.
It was the Komets’ fourth victory in their last five games and ensured they’d stay in third place in the Central Division at 30-21-9, at least until today.
The teams meet again at 2 p.m. today at Brampton, where goalie Etienne Marcoux stopped 34 of 37 shots for the Colin Chaulk-coached Beast (30-25-6).
Brady Shaw, a forward, had two goals for the Komets, including one 12:46 into the second period that gave Fort Wayne a 3-1 lead. Shaw added an empty-net goal in the third period.
Also scoring for Fort Wayne were defenseman Kevin Gibson and forward J.C. Campagna, who has 32 goals in 52 games since joining the Komets.
Campagna’s goal came during a power play 8:23 into the second period, giving Fort Wayne a 2-0 lead. Brampton’s Artur Tianulin, a former Fort Wayne player, answered at 12:17.
