Gas Leak Leads To Evacuation Of NEIU Building In Archbald
ARCHBALD — A gas leak led to the evacuation of the Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit early this afternoon.
At 1:07 p.m., the Archbald Fire Department responded to the gas leak at 1200 Line St., where a paving contractor was working on repaving the parking lot. A machine accidentally tore a 2-inch gas line, police said.
“The gas was spewing into the air,” borough police Chief Tim Trently said.
About 35 employees inside the building evacuated as a precaution, said Joseph Swope, a UGI spokesman.
Police checked neighboring homes, but nobody had any issues. UGI shut the gas off to the area and are in the process of making repairs, Swope said.
