Officials identify likely cause of church addition collapse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Providence officials have identified the likely cause of the collapse of an under-construction church addition.
Citing information from a city inspection, WPRI-TV reports the bracing on the Providence Spanish Seventh Day Adventist Church failed and caused the roof truss to collapse in a “domino-like effect” Sunday.
No injuries were reported after the collapse.
The report says no violations will be issued because construction on the church addition was still in the early stages. It says “corrective action” will be taken.
The church had raised $1.4 million to build the addition.
A general contractor on the site Monday said he is unsure when work will resume.
