ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) _ Ted Turner underwent surgery to correct a herniated disk at a hospital Wednesday night.

The routine surgery, called a laminectomy, lasted about one hour with no complications and the media magnate was listed in good condition, surgeon Paul Maurer said in a statement. Turner was expected to be discharged Friday.

A spokesman at Rochester General Hospital said Turner was a personal friend of Maurer's and that was why he chose to undergo surgery here.

Turner founded the Cable News Network and sold his media empire to Time Warner Inc. in 1996.

With an estimated net worth of $5 billion, Turner was listed 22nd on the Forbes magazine list of richest Americans published last month. A year ago, Turner promised a $1 billion gift to the United Nations.
