Flames, smoke shoot out of NYC bus; no injuries

NEW YORK (AP) — Seven passengers have escaped injury when a fire erupted in the engine compartment of a New York City bus.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the driver spotted the fire at the rear of the bus around 6:45 a.m. Monday in the Bronx’s Melrose neighborhood. Firefighters put it out.

Video posted by WABC shows flames shooting above the bus and dark smoke billowing around it.
