UMass student named finalist for national green living award

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — A student at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst has been selected as one of 14 finalists for Turning Green’s Project Green Challenge.

Marina Qutab, of Rutland, is a junior majoring in communication and Arabic.

The Project Green Challenge asks college and high school students to make their lives more sustainable through a series of rigorous daily green challenges. Challenges are built around body, food, labeling, paper, fair trade and energy.

Qutab was selected from nearly 4,000 participants.

The finalists are being flown to San Francisco on Nov. 20 when a champion will be named. The winner gets a prize package worth more than $12,000.

Turning Green is a student led nonprofit promoting eco-sustainability for lifestyles, schools and communities.
