Irrigation pipeline not usable after damage discovered
YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — Officials say a damaged irrigation pipeline in southern Washington state will not be usable for the growing season next year.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports Union Gap Irrigation District officials say the concrete pipe that runs through the site of a slow-moving landslide on the slope of Rattlesnake Ridge was likely damaged sometime within the last year.
The pipe serves about 170 customers north of Zillah.
Officials discovered cracks in late October after suspecting damage in July following mudslides in the area.
District manager Patrick Andreas says the district plans to divert water from the Sunnyside Irrigation District canal and from the Roza Irrigation District canal through new pipelines to resupply irrigation water.
