Suspect arrested in Hartsville convenience store robbery

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Darlington County Sheriff’s deputies have a suspect in custody in an attempted armed robbery of a Hartsville convenience store.

The Tuesday incident happened about 1 p.m. at the Markette at 1700 N. Fifth Street when a white man entered the store, brandished a knife and demanded money, according to a release from the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.

The clerk refused to give him money and eventually walked out of the store.

About 4 p.m. patrol deputies took a suspect into custody near Patrick Highway and Ousleydale Road, said Lt. Robert Kilgo, Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.
