LIBERTY, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi sheriff says DNA analysis confirms that a body found in a burned BMW was a 31-year-old man reported missing one day earlier.

Amite County Sheriff Tim Wroten tells the McComb Enterprise-Journal that investigators believe Anthony Hackett probably passed out behind the wheel and ran into a trash pile, which caught fire from the engine's heat.

He says results are still out on a test to tell whether Hackett inhaled smoke. If he did, that would support accidental death. If he didn't, that might indicate foul play.

Hackett's body was found Sept. 9.

Wroten says there was little doubt the body was Hackett's, but DNA confirmation was needed.

He says Hackett had diabetes, which sometimes had made him pass out.
