Official seeks vote to restore historic town hall
WHEELOCK, Vt. (AP) — A town clerk is working on a proposal to restore a historic Vermont town hall.
The Caledonian Record reports Carol Rossi’s proposal includes adding an accessibility lift, a fire alarm system and plumbing to Wheelock Town Hall for about $880,000.
Rossi says the upgrades will be paid for through an $800,000 bond vote, of which $15,000 would come from an increase in taxes.
She says she is working on the proposal as a private citizen, and not in her official capacity.
Rossi says the work must be done even if the Town Hall becomes a museum in the future, and every year the work is delayed, the price of the repairs will go up.
She is seeking a vote on the project on Town Meeting Day in March.
