Southport Garden Stroll: Enjoy beautiful landscapes, take time to smell the flowers
If you’d like a sneak peek at some of the most beautiful gardens in Southport, including some so picturesque they’ve been featured in magazine spreads and/or recognized by the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian Institution, now’s your chance — thanks to the Southport Garden Stroll.
This self-paced tour features more than 10 gardens and starts with a stop at Pequot Library on Friday, June 7. The Great Lawn is where you check in to obtain your garden card and map of the properties that will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Go in any order you like; just be sure to wear comfy shoes so you can really enjoy the whole tour. Tickets for the Southport Garden Stroll are available here. Proceeds help support the library’s programs and services.
Describing the tour in a news release, the library said, “Wander through private, manicured gardens in an idyllic New England neighborhood on the harbor. This is a rare opportunity to get an up-close, behind-the-gates look at stylish creations. See — and smell — botanical magnificence. Whether you’ve got a green thumb or you’re just getting started, these private paradises will provide you with ideas for your own garden.”

The library said volunteers at each location will guide visitors “through the most notable features of these diverse, elegant landscapes” and can answer questions about plants, design style and more. “Explore hidden Southport, work up an appetite, and then grab a bite in or near the Five Corners in the heart of this quaint, coastal village.”
