Pepper spray release in school cafeteria prompts dismissal
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say pepper spray released in an eastern Pennsylvania middle school cafeteria prompted a hazardous materials response and early dismissal.
Emergency dispatchers in Northampton County responded to Easton Area Middle School after the 10:30 a.m. Monday incident and reportedly treated several people.
School district officials said the middle school would dismiss students shortly after noon “due to emergency circumstances.”
John Remaley, the school district’s director of safe schools, said dispatcher reports indicated that as many as 80 people were in the room at the time of the release and were moved outside.
