SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police say they have arrested two people and taken more than 9,000 bags of heroin and a handgun off the streets.

Police say 26-year-old Anibal Castro and 31-year-old Giovannie Luna are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on drug and gun charges following their arrest Wednesday.

Acting on a tip, police tracked the suspects from Westfield to Chicopee where detectives allegedly saw them take packets of heroin from the trunk of a parked car.

Police say the suspects then proceeded to Springfield to sell the drugs. That's where they were arrested.

Luna allegedly had 230 bags of heroin.

Police returned to Chicopee and found thousands more bags of heroin and a loaded handgun reported stolen.

The suspects were held overnight and it's unclear if they have lawyers.
