AOBI finds special topping on pizza

FORT MOHAVE — What’s better than a pizza party?

A pizza party with cold hard cash.

Students at Academy of Building Industries High School had the latter on Thursday.

The Mohave Valley Contractors Association, which created the high school, presented Principal Jean Thomas a check for $2,000. Bullhead City Insurance Center Inc. and Mountain View Homes sprang for more than 40 pizzas.

The cash is in exchange for AOBI students’ work during the contractors association’s annual home and garden show. Thomas said the association allows the students to earn money for shop supplies.

“The shops are very expensive to run,” she said.

Contractors Association President Larry Adams said the school, which is focused on preparing students for careers in the building trades, stands as an example of the best of the region.

“I can’t tell you how proud we are of you and how successful you’ve been, Adams told students gathered for lunch.

The builder’s academy, which opened in 2005, has a curriculum that includes academic work toward high school diplomas, and awards vocational certificates in several trades.
