Aces win IHSA Class A Wrestling Regional

February 5, 2019

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. -- Mount Carmel wrestling coach Logan Crum had previously said that he felt like he had six or seven wrestlers capable of winning individually at regional, adding that he felt they had a fair shot of winning the region despite a plethora of injuries that have affected the Aces season.

Coach Crum’s intuition proved correct on Saturday. The Aces, anchored by five individuals winning their weight class, won the IHSA Class A Regional.

Mount Carmel finished with 182.5 points as a team, placing just ahead of Benton’s 170 points and second place finish.

A plethora of Aces excelled with their seasons on the line. The top three individual placers in each class advanced to wrestle next weekend at sectionals in Carterville.

Cade Keepes in the 113 class finished first, Dayton Hall placed first in the 120 class, Jack Deisher finished second in the 126 class, Nate Critchfield placed first in the 152 weight class, Sebastian Lowe ended second in the 160 class, Chris Shelby won the 170 class, Ryan Johnson was victorious in the 182 class, and Elliott Laws finished third in the 285 weight class. All of the Aces in this list advanced with their top three finishes.

Caleb Norrick finished fourth in 195 class, placing him just outside the qualification for sectional.

Mount Carmel’s wrestlers who placed inside the top three will advance to the sectionals in Carterville this coming weekend. They’re scheduled for Friday and Saturday beginning at 4-5 p.m.
