MPD: Bankrupt contractor charged with $50,000 fraud

April 8, 2019

MILFORD-A remodeling and painting contract who has filed for bankruptcy has been charged by police with failing to fulfill a $50,000 contract on a job.

Police charged William Allen, 51, of New Haven Avenue, with first-degree larceny, failure to issue a refund and contractor fraud. He was released on a promise to appear April 30 in Milford Superior Court.

Police said Allen took on a contract to do remodeling work at a Milford home from August to October, 2018 and failed to complete the work.

Allen told Hearst Connecticut Media Group Monday that his business is in bankruptcy.

As to this particular contract, he said he was going over the paperwork now.

“I don’t know what they are talking about,” he said. “The dates don’t even match up. We were there this past January.”

He said he is seeking a lawyer to represent him in court.
