8 safely evacuate when trees fall on apartment building

March 12, 2019

PITCAIRN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say two large trees fell on an apartment building in western Pennsylvania, but all eight residents were able to safely evacuate.

The trees came down around 2 a.m. Tuesday onto the three-story building in Pitcairn, which is about 15 miles (24 kilometers) east of Pittsburgh. Authorities say the residents were forced to flee outside as temperatures hovered in the upper 20s, but no injuries were reported.

The building’s landlord says he’s arranged for the eight residents to stay at a hotel in nearby Monroeville until it’s safe for them to return home. But it’s not clear when the repairs will be completed.
