Last weekend saw a local star wrestler get out of the state and out of his comfort zone, looking to compete against some of the best wrestlers in the nation, as Monty Tech’s Isaic Paulino set out to northern New York to compete at the Pop & Flo National Duals in Lake Placid, New York.

Competing at the site made famous by the Miracle on Ice Olympic moment, Paulino was determined to make the most of his opportunity. And he did just that, going 3-2 on the weekend, earning himself two decisions and a pin against elite competition.

Paulino was grateful for the opportunity and noted how it willhelps him improve.

“These big tournaments are great since they’re getting me ready for the regular season,” he said. “Getting tougher competition teaches me what I need to improve on for the regular season.”

Up next, Paulino will be heading to the NHSCA National Duals in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with the Doughboy Wrestling Club. He’ll be joined by two other Central Mass. stars, Nashoba Regional’s Brevin Cassella and Lucien Perla.
