Jessie, Roughen lead L-Cats to eighth straight win
Briana Jessie hit a 2-run home run to center in the seventh and Taylor Roughen struck out nine over seven innings to push the Lake Mills softball team past Luther Prep 8-1 in a Capitol North game at LPS on Friday for the team’s eighth consecutive victory.
Lake Mills’ Payton Hans was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Ellie Evenson went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
Roughen allowed four hits and one earned while only walking one.
Lake Mills (12-3, 4-2 in conference) scored two in the second inning and added lone runs in the third and fourth frames to build a 4-1 lead. The L-Cats scored four insurance runs in the seventh.
Luther Prep (4-5, 1-5) starter Andrea Bortulin allowed 10 hits and two earned in a complete-game effort.
Sarah Thede was 2 for 3 with a run scored for the Phoenix.
Luther Prep plays a conference doubleheader at Poynette on Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m.
Lake Mills plays a Capitol North doubleheader on the road at Meister Park versus Columbus starting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
