Montana organization opens new shelter for area’s homeless
BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — A Montana support organization has opened a new homeless shelter and meal service.
The Montana Standard reports that the Butte Rescue Mission held a ribbon cutting Tuesday for its Center of Hope in Butte.
Officials say the project’s completion comes 26 months after the Christian organization was forced to close its previous shelter due to fire safety concerns.
Executive Director Rocky Lyons calls the center a “clean, safe environment for the hurting, the hungry and the homeless in southwest Montana.”
The center expects to begin offering services Wednesday with a lunch and three daily meals afterward.
The shelter includes one modular housing unit for men and another for women, children and intact families.
Officials say each unit includes a communal area, laundry facilities and restrooms with sinks, stalls and showers.
