A high-risk sex offender was arrested Wednesday evening for violating his parole after he cut off his ankle monitor and disappeared.

Gregory Wayne Ferguson, 56, cut off the monitor near Gaddis Park around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Three hours later, Douglas County Community Corrections sent out a release with his photo, stating that he has a significant history of violence against women, including women he didn’t know.

The release said Ferguson’s mother lives in Eagle Point and that he may traveled to Jackson County by hitchhiking or by bus. Police described Ferguson’s target victims as adult females and adolescent males.

After the release was sent out, multiple people near One Champion Plaza off of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard called in with sightings of Ferguson, police said.

Douglas County Parole and Probation officers later found and arrested Ferguson at the intersection of Stewart Parkway and Airport Road.

In 2003, Ferguson was found guilty of first-degree rape and attempted murder.
