RAMP RESCUE

MINOT, N.D. _ The City of Minot is taking steps to reduce calls for assistance to its parking ramps and to speed the response when calls come in. The move comes after a woman became trapped in a downtown parking ramp for 1½ hours. UPCOMING: 250 words.

EXCHANGE-CHURCH VOLUNTEERS-TACKLING HUNGER

BISMARCK, N.D. — In the small town of McLaughlin, South Dakota, many of the residents didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving Day as most Americans do. Located 9 miles south of the North Dakota state line on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, the Rev. Harvey Schmeichel and his wife, Patti, have over the years seen children and families go hungry for days. For nearly 19 years at the nondenominational Freedom Fellowship Church, located downtown on Main Street, the couple has ministered in the community by opening their home and the doors of the church to a large segment of the area’s population in need of shelter, clothing, transportation, food, a place to worship and a warm meal every weekend.
